President Bush: Farewell, and Clean Up Your Mess!
by
Radio Left Review

All Action Alerts from Care2
Our wildlife and the habitat they depend on deserve leaders who are good stewards of the land, not beholden to corporate interests. But President Bush, Vice President Cheney, and their anti-wildlife cronies such as Gale Norton and Dirk Kempthorne have made a mess and a mockery of our environmental regulations and wildlife protections.
Over the past seven years, the Bush/Cheney Administration has worked to:
- Block meaningful efforts to address climate change now threatening polar bears, penguins and other wildlife.
- Eliminate vital protections for endangered wolves in the Greater Yellowstone Area.
- Roll back protections for millions of acres of roadless areas in our National Forests, paving the way for the destruction of habitat that wolves, grizzly bears and countless other species need to survive.
- Expand destructive oil and gas drilling off our coasts and in sensitive areas such as the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, threatening polar bears, sea otters and other wildlife.
And that's only a partial list!
With less than a year to go, President Bush and his administration should take this opportunity to clean up the mess they have made by supporting comprehensive legislation to address climate change, immediately listing imperiled ... more »

Protect People with Diabetes from Discrimination
by
Radio Left Review
on Mon 28 Jan 2008 08:00 PM CST
All Action Alerts from Care2
Stephen Orr, a pharmacist at a Wal-Mart in Nebraska, was fired for taking lunch breaks to manage his diabetes. Yet he was never able to remedy this injustice.
The reason?
Courts have been throwing out diabetes discrimination cases because of an absurd Catch 22, siding with employers who claim that a person with diabetes is "too disabled" to do the job, but not "disabled enough" to be protected by the laws!
That's what happened to Stephen.
The stakes are huge: if a person with diabetes isnt covered by anti-disability discrimination law, then it's perfectly legal to fire or refuse to hire that person explicitly because of his or her diabetes.
Its clear Congress intended to protect people with diabetes and other chronic diseases from discrimination when they passed the Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990. But thats not how the courts have interpreted the law.
Today, help make sure that women and men who should be protected from discrimination are indeed protected! Tell the Senate to support "The Americans with Disabilities Act Restoration Act." Take Action

by
Radio Left Review
on Fri 25 Jan 2008 10:01 AM CST
All Action Alerts from Care2
In a few days, President Bush will deliver his final State of the Union address.
In an attempt to rewrite the history books, he will lie and deny, wrap himself in the heroism of better, braver men and women who wear the uniform, and try to tell us the economy is strong and the occupation is a success.
While we focus on a better future, we can't let him rewrite history.
Sign this petition in opposition to Bush's address. Send a message telling the White House the REAL state of the union! Take Action
