imposed contest against the Democratic Party's standard bearer, Ned Lamont, in
this November's U.S. Senate race in Connecticut.
If it comes true, O'Donnell's prediction will be good news for Democrats,
for Connecticut, for the likely balance in the U.S. Senate after 2006, and for
the whole country. What I find interesting is to speculate on where Joe will go
after he's dropped out.
It's no secret that Joe Lieberman coveted Secretary of Defense Don

by
Geoff Staples
on Wed 16 Nov 2005 07:04 PM GMT
Many people here are talking about Sir Christopher Meyer's collection of
memoirs, DC CONFIDENTIAL, serialised in The Guardian. This is an account of the
Blair administration's dealings with the Bush people during Meyer's tenure as
Britian's Ambassador to the USA. He is scathing of Blair and Bush, as an excerpt
(below) from the memoirs suggests.

London, England
9 November 2005
The Labour government's has suffered its first defeat in eight years
in a House of Commons vote. A proposed amendment to the Terror
Bill, to extend police authority to hold a terrorist suspect without

to 291 -- a 31-vote majority for those against the proposal (with about 50 MPs
absent).
The Conservative Party, who if in power would probably insist on
an even harsher elimination of the freedom and rights of terrorist
suspects, voted en masse against the government
amendment. Their leader, Michael Howard ... more »
