The Times of London, owned by conservative media mogul Rupert Murdoch,
leads media reports on the Blair administration's efforts to muzzle The Times
and other British newspapers on reporting an alleged phone call
between Prime Minister Blair and George W. Bush, in which Blair dissuaded Bush
from bombing Al-Jazeera, the free Arab-Muslim news service based in Doha, Qatar.

The report on the alleged Bush plan to bomb Al-Jazeera was first
published on November 22nd by The Daily Mail, another conservative newspaper
which many media pundits feel gets Blair's attention more than any other paper.

It is interesting that a Labour Prime Minister, which many
might assume to be liberal and progressive in character, has become so
close to a conservative or extremist American president that he has earned the
dissent and criticism of, of all things, conservative newspapers.
