Most of you may have seen Jack Lemmon in the lead role of "Mister Roberts," the mild 'moral and laundry officer' of a US Navy ship, who gets the best of his tyrant commanding officer, played by the great James Cagney. Well, George Bush is no Jimmy Cagney, human enough to accept defeat. And this Mr Roberts, lacklustre as his legal career may be, is no mild Jack Lemmon hero.
Anything but.

London police are regarding today's attacks on one bus in East London and at three underground stations spread across London as not of major significance. About a dozen underground stations are closed at this moment, and three underground lines, disrupting the 3,000,000 travellers who use the public transport network. So far, it has been detonators, not bombs, which have exploded. Many witnesses have reported loud bangs and the smell of burning wires in the three stations involved. However, a small number of eyewitness passengers have reported dramatic incidents. On one train, a bomber exploded ... more »

The once-a-week-only submission from Dale Reynolds, correspondent in London.
Dear readers and listeners: this is not a typical submission. It is not about politics per se. As it is about "ordinary" people, though, it is about the best of politics anywhere. Recently I talked with my Welsh professor of physics friend, Terry. He's a brilliant, engaging man, about 50, as sociable as he is intellectual and -- out there in his own zone of physics reality despite being able to converse convivially, at the same time, with anyone, about anything. Perhaps he is the perfect "sort" or person to have ... more » Wednesday, July 13

July 13, 2005 In reference to three previous blogs in this space (please see "Who is Behind the London Bombings") on a possible connection between certain named or suggested business concerns based, or seemingly based, in Maryland, and the Al Qaeda terrorist network, the editor of a popular online newspaper had called to my attention that "Jon David," who is mentioned in one of the blogs and positioned as suggestively culpable, " ... was a heroic hacker who broke into terrorist websites and stole their registration status, it turns out" (after the editor's own look ... more » |
