The Bush regime will go down in history as the first and only administration in United States history to routinely break treaties. The Geneva Convention. The nuclear test ban treaty. The Strategic arms Limitation Treaty. All have gone out the window under Bush. The excuse? September 11. "Everything has changed.
The only thing that has changed is that we have a president who never met a treaty he liked. Now another treaty goes out the window.
After the War of 1812, the United States signed a treaty with Canada. The United States and Canada agreed to disarm on the Great Lakes. Now, that almost 200 year old treaty that has served us so well and served as the basis for the longest, unarmed border in the world, is about to go the way of the Geneva Convention.
Bush thinks the need to arm the Coast Guard on the Great Lakes. Protect us from the terrorists. Who cares about the law? After all what's a treaty? A law signed by our president and the the head of state of other countries and passed by our Congress and theirs. Why should that be binding?
Has Bush seen one too many Sgt. Preston of the Yukon cartoon? Snidely Whiplash is out there trying to kill us.
