A new Washington Post poll shows that 56% say the US is not making progress in restoring order to Iraq. That's a drop of 17% since December.
This new lower number comes amid Bush's worst poll rating which show his approval rating in the low 30s.
In the latest Gallup poll, 75% believe that civil war is imminent in Iraq. Amazingly, 62% in that same poll believe the US can win the war in Iraq.
But what does winning mean? We got Saddam Hussein out of office. Osama bin Laden is not in Iraq. He's under the protection of Bush's buddy Mousharraf in Pakistan. Ending violence in Iraq? Installing an elected government?
The elections have been held. Iraq has a government. But with each subsequent election, violence escalated.
And ending violence means no civil war. So, as usual, Americans are doing some thinking (understanding we made a mess) but still listening to Bush (we can win).
Or does winning mean what it originally meant - taking their oil, installing a friendly government and putting the population to work for slave wages?
