"We must have a foreign policy that is both strong and smart. Yes, the Republicans have been strong, but they haven't been smart. And the policy is one big mess, everyone knows it."
- Senator Chuck Schumer

On Friday, the Justice Department admitted spying on 3,501 Americans and legal residents. News reports say that this is the first time the Bush regime admits this.

But it's not.

When Attorney General Al Gonzales testified before Congress and was asked if Americans were being spied on, he said, No, not in THIS program! Emphasis is mine. He never lied. He stated the information quite accurately. In the program he was testifying about, he was speaking "truthiness." The spying on Americans was being done in OTHER programs.

But we caught that the day it happened. Click here for original article...   more »

Drug addict and Republican icon Rush Limbaugh settled his first fraud case related to his drug abuse. On Friday, he turned himself in to police and was released on $3,000 bail on a new fraud charge.

On the charge of doctor shopping, the right-wing extremist, who has said on the air that drug users should get maximum penalties, will have have those charges dropped in 18 months if he continues drug treatment. He also paid $30,000 to defray the public cost of the investigation. That is about half the amount he is paid for each hour of hate he spews on the ...   more »

View Article  In disaster, Bush agenda wins again

A bipartisan congressional committee has advised that Bush should abolish FEMA.

So the Bush agenda wins again.

What's the Bush policy toward social security? Destroy it.

What's the Bush environmental policy? Dismantle it.

What's the Bush policy toward industry oversight and regulation? Deregulation.

And what's the Bush policy toward any agency designed to help those who cannot take care of themselves? Abolish it.

Unfortunately, once again, Congress got it wrong. FEMA needs to be headed by someone with experience in emergency management. FEMA needs to be restored to the level of efficiency it achieved during the Clinton administration. During ...   more »

View Article  Bush uses energy crisis to forward destructive right wing policy

Bush is being given credit for taking steps to curb the rise in energy prices.

Even the New York Times headline is "Bush Takes Steps to Ease Increase in Energy Prices." But after being credited with taking steps, the Times quotes someone who says he can do little to effect prices and then says that Bush hasn't even gone as far as members of Congress who have called for the return of the Windfall Profits Tax.

The idea of a tax on windfall profits would imply that the cost of acquiring oil isn't nearly as high as the profits the ...   more »

View Article  Prices rise. Who ya gonna blame?

So Bush is stumping the country, calling for oil prices to come down. He says it threatens American security and influence in the world. Actually, the rise in prices threatens Bush's security and influence in  Congress.

Oil companies are defending the rise in price in the switch to more ethanol. Sure. We believe that. Because if you increase the amount of ethanol in the gas mixture, you need 10-20 percent LESS oil.

Bush doesn't acknowledge that rising prices are a failure of his administration's secret energy policy. Remember the energy summit back in May, 2001? Cheney invited his buddies, people ...   more »
