"We must have a foreign policy that is both strong and smart. Yes, the Republicans have been strong, but they haven't been smart. And the policy is one big mess, everyone knows it."
- Senator Chuck Schumer

The annual protest at the annual meeting of ExxonMobil was smaller than usual today. Fewer than 100 people were annoyed enough at this giant corporation to spend 30 minutes before work protesting:

Exxon's discriminatory practices. When Exxon took over Mobil, they eliminated partnership benefits and non-discrimination policies for employees.

Exxon's advertising practices. Exxon is the lead sponsor of The Masters Golf Tournament, held at a club that doesn't allow women to enter. You'd think one of the women on the board of directors of this corporation would have something to say about that.

Exxon's enviromental policies. Since the Exxon ...   more »

Treasury Secretary John Snow is resigning. Snow’s tenure was highlighted by his approval of turning our ports over to the man who financed the September 11 attacks on New York.

The new treasury secretary will be Chairman Henry M. Paulson Jr., the co-chairman and CEO of investment banker Goldman Sachs.

Let’s cut to the chase. What’s wrong with this guy? After all, Bush only appoints criminals.

Paulson began his career in government in the Nixon White House as Assistant to John Ehrlichman. At a time when Bush is embroiled in more and more scandal, he needs someone ...   more »

View Article  Pull out of Iraq - news organizations that is

Two members of a CBS news crew are dead and reporter Kimberley Dozier is critically wounded.

ABC anchorman Bob Woodruff still has not recovered from his injuries.

What if news organizations said, “To hell with it. It’s not worth it.” Or what if reporters simply decided not to go?

Would we be any worse off without daily news reports from Iraq? We’d still hear what was going on from soldiers sending daily email. We’d still hear about Defense Department incompetence from returning officers. And "to hell with it" would make more of a statement - and scare ...   more »

View Article  How can Republicans win? Be Democrats

One way for a Republican to win this November is to become a Democrat. While not changing parties – yet – Arnold Schwartzenegger sure is acting like one.

Almost half of his appointments have been Democrats. His new chief of staff was former Democratic governor Gray Davis’s chief of staff.

He has pledged billions to education. He is mending fences with powerful unions such teachers, correctional police officers and nurses.

Breaking with Bush, he questioned sending National guard troops to the border. He criticiezed plans to build the Berlin Wall across the border.

Is the tactic ...   more »

In 1999, former Christian Coalition head Ralph Reed campaigned against legislation that would have brought the U.S. administered Mariana Islands under federal wage and worker safety laws.

Reed was supporting bringing in Chinese workers to Mariana Islands factories and returned home with bibles in hand.

Now Reed is running for Lieutenant Governor of Georgia. Poor Ralph. His words are coming back to bite him in the ass.

Turns out that those imported Chinese workers were forced to work for low wages and women who got pregnant were forced to have abortions. Women and children were forced into ...   more »
