Donald Rumsfeld is on the offensive. The war criminal said critics of the Bush Wars “seem not to have learned history’s lessons.”Well, elections are coming and the tactic has worked in three previous elections. And if Democrats roll over and allow the administration to get away with it, it will work again.
What's so amazing is that Rumsfeld has the audacity to accuse those criticizing the war of not learning from history. Rumsfeld and his warmonger friends are the ones who haven't learned - not even from their own mistakes.
On Radioleft, we warned repeatedly that Iraqis would not greet the American invaders with flowers. When the looting in Baghdad started, we had warned that if they invade with no plan keep peace, chaos would be rampant.
What we didn't know was that the Bush administration had invaded Iraq with virtually no plan. The only goal was to oust Saddam Hussein. Once he was out of power, Bush declared victory - because that was all that he really planned to do. Three years later, there's still no plan. There's no real goal. We have no idea what winning Bush's war will look like.
And making things worse, his war is no longer being fought by volunteers, but by veterans who got the hell out and have now been drafted back into involuntary service. Those draftees need to refuse to go just as we did during Vietnam to help shut this war down. Now THAT would be learning from history.
