The New York Times reports that "The Senate Intelligence Committee said today that there is no evidence that Saddam Hussein had prewar ties to Al Qaeda and one of the terror organization’s most notorious members, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi."Five years after we said it on Radioleft, five years after Democrats insisted, five years after anyone who was paying attention ... the Senate acknowledged that there were no ties between Saddam Hussein and al Qaeda.
What's remarkable about this? The Senate remains in Republican hands. The report concludes - without saying it - that Bush lied. Bush twisted the evidence for his own purposes. The reason we went into Iraq was based on lies.
Again, this is nothing new. We've know it since it was first said. But the Republican Senate is now saying it as well.
Why?
To try to maintain control of the Senate in this year's election, Republicans are distancing themselves from Bush. In the middle of his terrorism speech campaign, Republicans, themselves, are calling Bush a liar.
