The approach to terrorism that Karl Rove recently ascribed to liberals is the only response that has any chance of last success in this war. Not only that but following this approach would require that we regain some of the points lost to the Barbars by our falling prey to that very nature human reaction of desiring revenge.

By making war on the terrorists, we are providing these fanatics an easy chance to achieve everlasting glory. If terrorists knew that instead of going out in a blaze of eternal glory, they’d be deprived of any chance of ever achieving any glory; their reason for joining these attacks could dry-up. These maniacs want to die for their cause and Bush’s approach is helping them.

As everyone on this blog surely knows we need a new strategy for this war -- the Bush "High Noon" approach isn't working.

We hae a chance to eliminate international Islamic terrorism by returning to treating terrorism as a criminal event punishable by life imprisonment. This punishment would produce a quiet obscure death totally bereft of glory. This would be the most horrible thing that we could do to these Islamic extremist. They die as frustrated, infirm, old people deprived of any chance at glory. In the end, as has happened over and ever again, the Clinton administration had it right.
