Federal Court Judge Alvin Hellerstein in Manhattan ordered that the U. S. Government release documents pertaining to the treatment of prisioners in Abu Ghraib Prison and other detention facilities including Guantanamo Bay within 30 days. An estimated 17,000 plus pages were requested in Freedom of Information Act requests last October (2003) by the American Civil Liberties Union and other groups.
