"We must have a foreign policy that is both strong and smart. Yes, the Republicans have been strong, but they haven't been smart. And the policy is one big mess, everyone knows it."

View Article  Countdown Special Comment: On FISA and Telecom Immunity
Crooks and Liars

Keith Olbermann’s Special Comment tonight on Countdown was yet another scathing rebuke of President Bush and his lies about the pending FISA legislation and fear tactics during his final State of the Union address earlier this week. Bush has said repeatedly he would veto any FISA legislation that did not include immunity for the telecommunications companies who broke the law and betrayed the American people. However, as Keith points out, if the president were to veto the legislation and there was another terrorist attack inside the U.S., he, and he alone would be responsible for it — all in the name of protecting huge corporations over the American people he was charged with protecting.

Sorry, Mr. Bush. The eavesdropping provisions of FISA have obviously had no impact on counter-terrorism, and there is no current or perceived terrorist threat, the thwarting of which could hinge on an e-mail or a phone call going through room 641-A at AT&T in San Francisco next week or next month.

Now that actual votes are being counted, who has the delegates and who has gotten out of the race? And let us not forget the media blackout on Edwards and how that impacted his ability to gain traction nor the pundit-declared victory for ...   more »

View Article  Right wing talkies attacking McCain
Crooks and Liars

cruise with hugh! Poor Hugh Hewitt and the rest of right wing talk radio. They are very upset by McCain and are trying to torpedo his candidacy.

Conservative talk radio is ganging up on presidential candidate John McCain, attacking him for joining Democrats to push liberal legislation and opposing bedrock Republican positions from tax cuts to immigration.

I guess Hewitt was hoping his Mitt book would have landed him the lead position of “The Department of Right Wing Blogger Noise,” in Romney’s administration.

I just got here and it’s wild outside. Reminds me of a rock concert. People cheering for Hillary and Obama. Impeach Cheney signs…There’s a palpable electricity in the air. They know this is a historic debate. I’m just getting set up….

UPDATE:  (Nicole) Shy, retiring guy that he is, John neglected to remind you to catch him on the Post-Debate Round Up Countdown on MSNBC immediately following the debate.  He’s scheduled to be on around 7:30pm Pacific/10:30pm Eastern.

The “surge” theory says that Iraq is pacified. The numbers in general don’t bear that out.
