This week marks the first anniversary of the car crash in which Republican Rep. Bill Janklow killed motorcyclist Randy Scott of Hardwick, Minn.

Janklow ran a stop sign causing the accident, has been cited for numerous traffic violations and was well-known as a wreckless driver.

Janklow was convicted of second-degree manslaughter in December and resigned from Congress. He served 100 days in county prison and was released on May 10.

The family of Janklow's victim is suing the former congressman. In July, a federal judge ruled that Janklow was "on duty" when he ran the stop sign causing the deadly collision which means that taxpayers would have to pick up the tab for any civil damages in the wrongful-death lawsuit.
