Former Republican state Sen. Guy J. Velella  was sentenced in June to a year in jail. The charge was accepting bribes.

Velella was released today after serving a little more than three months in Rikers Island.

After admitting he helped those who paid bribes win public contracts, he was jailed on June 21.
Velella, his father and two other men were indicted in May 2002 on 25-counts. The indictment alleges he accepted at least $137,000 in bribes from contractors from 1995 through June 2000.
