As we celebrate the birth of the Prince of Peace, let us all
reflect on the beatitudes that mark the opening of the Sermon on the
Mount, the very first of the Christ’s sermons in the Gospel of St.
Matthew (verses 3-10). And let us reflect on the neocons that hijacked
the true teachings of Jesus.
JESUS: I was hungry and you gave
me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you
welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited
me, I was in prison and you came to me. (Matthew 25:35)
DAN
RATHER, CBS News, March 16th, ‘95: The new Republican majority in
Congress took a big step today on its legislative agenda to demolish or
damage government aid programs, many of them designed to help children
and the poor.
GROVER NORQUIST: Every time you cut programs, you
take away a person who has a vested interest in high taxes and you put
him on the tax rolls and make him a taxpayer. A farmer on subsidies is
part WELFARE BUM, whereas a free-market farmer is a small businessman
with a gun.
G.W. BUSH: This is an impressive crowd, the haves and the have-mores. Some people call you the elite. I call you my base.
JESUS: Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven. (Matthew 5:3)
JIMMY SWAGGERT: If I do not return to the pulpit this weekend, millions of people will go to Hell.
JESUS: Blessed are the meek: for they shall posses the land. (Matthew 5:5)
G.W.
BUSH: I do not need to explain why I say things. That’s the interesting
thing about being the President. Maybe somebody needs to explain to me
why they say something, but I don’t feel like I owe anybody an
explanation.
JESUS: Blessed are they who mourn: for they shall be comforted. (Matthew 5:4)
ANN
COULTER: We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and
convert them to Christianity. We weren’t punctilious about locating and
punishing only Hitler and his top officers. We carpet-bombed German
cities; we killed civilians. That’s war. And this is war.
JESUS: Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after justice: for they shall have their fill. (Matthew 5:6)
ANN
COULTER: I have to say I’m all for public flogging. One type of
criminal that a public humiliation might work particularly well with
are the juvenile delinquents, a lot of whom consider it a badge of
honor to be sent to juvenile detention. And it might not be such a cool
thing in the ‘hood to be flogged publicly.
JESUS: Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. (Matthew 5:7)
LT.
GEN. JAMES MATTIS (of the Afghan and Iraq wars): Actually, it’s quite
fun to fight ‘em, you know. It’s a hell of a hoot. It’s fun to shoot
some people. I’ll be right up front with you, I like brawling.
JESUS: Blessed are the clean of heart: for they shall see God. (Matthew 5:8)
RANDALL
TERRY, founder of Operation Rescue: I want you to just let a wave of
intolerance wash over you. I want you to let a wave of hatred wash over
you. Yes, hate is good. Our goal is a Christian nation. We have a
Biblical duty, we are called by God, to conquer this country. We don’t
want equal time. We don’t want pluralism.
RANDALL TERRY: (re:
doctors who perform abortions) When I, or people like me, are running
the country, you’d better flee, because we will find you, we will try
you, and we’ll execute you. I mean every word of it. I will make it
part of my mission to see to it they are tried and executed.
DICK CHENEY: (to Sen. Patrick Leahy) F*ck yourself.
JESUS: Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. (Matthew 5:9)
DONALD RUMSFELD: Death has a tendency to encourage a depressing view of war.
G. W. BUSH: The reason we start a war is to fight a war, win a war, thereby causing no more war!
JESUS: Bless are they that suffer persecution for justice’s sake, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven. (Matthew 5:10)
ANN
COULTER: When contemplating college liberals, you really regret once
again that John Walker is not getting the death penalty. We need to
execute people like John Walker in order to physically intimidate
liberals, by making them realize that they can be killed too. Otherwise
they were turn out to be outright traitors.
PASTOR FRED PHELPS:
You tellin’ these miser’ble, Hell-bound, bath house-wallowing,
anal-copulating fags that God loves them!? You have bats in the belfry.
PAT
ROBERTSON: How can there be peace when drunkards, rug dealers,
communists, atheists, New Age worshipers of Satan, secular humanists,
oppressive dictators, greedy money changers, revolutionary assassins,
adulterers, and homosexuals are on top?
JESUS: Love they neighbor as thyself. (Matthew 22:39)
PAT
ROBERTSON: You say you’re supposed to be nice to the Episcopalians and
the Presbyterians and the Methodists and this, that, and the other
thing. Nonsense. I don’t have to be nice to the spirit of the
Antichrist. I can love the people who hold false opinions but I don’t
have to be nice to them.
JESUS: Let him who is without sin cast the first stone. (John 8:7)
GROVER
NORQUIST: We are trying to change the tones in the state capitals — and
turn them toward bitter nastiness and partisanship.
G.W. BUSH: I’m the person who gets to decide, NOT YOU.
JESUS: Render unto Casesar the things which are Casesar’s, and unto God, the things that are God’s. (Matthew 22:21)
PAT
ROBERTSON: We at the Christian Coalition are raising an army who cares.
We are training people to be effective — to be elected to school
boards, to city councils, to state legislatures, and to key positions
in political parties…. By the end of this decade, if we work and give
and organize and train, THE CHRISTIAN COALITION WILL BE THE MOST
POWERFUL POLITICAL ORGANIZATION IN AMERICA.
JERRY FALWELL: The
idea that religion and politics don’t mix was invented by the Devil to
keep Christians from running their own country.
Hmmmm.
Doesn’t quite add up, does it?
I hope all you neocons got lumps of coal!

One more I just found:
Matthew 19:24: "It's harder for a rich man to get into Heaven high, than it is for a camel to pass through a needle's eye." Re: Good News for a troubled world: Jesus was no neo-con

Jeus may not have been a neo-con but he was also not a shill for big government. The answer my friends is blowin in the wind and that is Personal Responsibility for ones own self followed by ones family and ones community through personal acts of charity. The government fails miserably when it trys to be all things to all people or even assist them in small things.
Local charity is the best way to achieve what everyone seems to want. The lessening of poverty, ill health etc. And because of its definition (the lowest income amongst us) poverty will always be with us becasue if everyone had a million dollars someone with only 900,00 would be by definition be poor. I will agree the worst thing that has happened to the Republican Party is the rise to promenance of the "My way or no way" religious folk. I have a very strong belief in a higher power but I also believe that it is to be an individual belief however you as an individual perceive it and no single group should be telling the rest of the world that there way is the only way. Too many interpretations of a very unkown factor toi have only one way be correct. There is a source of energy that holds it all together, interpret it as you will get in touch with it and make it your own and you have the wind at your back. Your assertion that local charity is the solution fails two historical tests.
First, during the Great Depression part of the problem in the Great Depression (before FDR) was that the magnitude of the depression was so great that charites were unable to keep up. Yes, there were bread lines but many, many people went hungry and so many were being improverished that parts of this country (particularily the midwest [red states]) were on the verge of armed insurrection. For a more modern example, after 9/11 charities received amazingly unprecidented levels of support raising between 1.5 and 2 billion dollars. While this outpouring of charity is staggering it represents LESS THAN 5% of the total aid given to New York. Local charity sounds nice but unless a lot of people are ready to massively increase their giving, private charity aren't going to be up to the challenges of modern disasters. Personally, I am looking forward to my chance to go to New Orleans to help (my boss said he needed me here in January when my Churches next work team travels to LA). Next time you start advocating for private charities ask your libertarian side if you'd be ready to give $5200 to help with a 9/11 sized tragedy instead of the $200 or so that most of us gave. BTW I roughly agree with your assessment of the harm of the "my way or the highway" approach of the Religious Right. Since they see everything in black and white its not surprising they act like this. Jesus Was a Socialist Jew!

Jesus Christ was a long haired, Socialist Jew who said "for the love of money is the root of all evil." Just how much does that differ from what Karl Marx said about capitalism carrying the seeds of its own destruction? Now deal with that big time, you neo con jobs and phony liars.

Huh?
Your response is a rather cynical tactic. You have no response with which to defend your position so you play obtuse in the hope that we will now say something that you can pick apart and use to distract from the point at hand. The Point IS THIS

These quotes confirm that the Religious Right is all about amassing wealth and political power not about doing the rightous work that Jesus Christ commanded his followers to do.
Accordingly, the only conclusion one can make is they are at best falled Christians who've lost sight of their God-Given goals - mercy, discipleship, worship and HUMILITY. At worst they are craven enablers of an evil, greedy philosphy as far from Christianity as one can get. They are chasing after wealth and power and are making a Mockery of Christianity. There is no doubt that the trail is well laden with TV and Radio evangelicals who got caught up in the money and lost sight of the mission.
Jeus never said that one should not seek wealth only that the love of money was the root of all evil. If one obtains tons of money but does not do it for the love of the wealth but as the result of being productive, there is nothing wrong with wealth. And look at all of the wonderful things people of wealth have done in the way of charity. Besides Jesus enjoyed the life of a wealthy individual of his time. He had seamless robes (very expensive) and rode on a donkey while others walked. So wealth is not a problem only the love of it for its own sake. Are there people that fall into that category? certainly and those folks are wrong. I am one that believes that the Republican party would be better off if they were more true to the Barry Goldwater/Ronald Reagan philosophy of smaller government and more personal responsibility than whatever the "religious right" is pushing. ApologistforEvilandDance wrote:
"Jeus never said that one should not seek wealth" Wrong. You couldn't be more wrong on this issue. You know not God, and you certainly don't know the Bible, for God is Love (1 John 4:10 ), something you don't do. Once again, a ten second search reveals your assertion to be a lie. Listen to what Jesus had to say about wealth, according to the apostles Matthew, Luke and Mark. Matthew 6:24 This, from Matthew, chapter 19, the parable of the Rich Young Man: 16Now a man came up to Jesus and asked, "Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?" SongandLies wrote: "Jesus said... only that the love of money was the root of all evil." Hey, clueless and uniformed dumbass. Jesus didn't say that. Paul said this to Timothy of Aramathea, who was tempted by wealth: ....who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain. So, wealth leads to temptation and corruption of your faith. It leads to arrogance and ruthlessness. Funny how true those words hold for Tom Delay, Dick Cheney, and the entire Bush family, especially Prescott Bush who helped finance the Nazis. It's amazing what wealth can do to destroy faith. But Jesus didn't say that. Paul did. The assertion that "there is nothing wrong with wealth" has now officially and scipturally been discredited as a big lie. SongandLies: You shoud be more careful. Some of us actually know what we are talking about and have done the work that you should be doing. YOu haven't read the Bible. That much is clear. Shame on you for perpetrating a lie about the teaching of Jesus of Nazareth. Next you will be telling us that capital punishment is supported by scripture, or that adultery is cool with God (Tome Delay), or that bearing false witness is condoned for the greater good, or some other baseless lie. You should listen to Jesus when he says "Keep all the commandments", especially the one about not lying (bearing false witness). Do you even know what the eleventh commandment was? I'll bet that you don't have a clue. May God forgive you for bearing false witness against him. Oh, and where did you get the idea that anyone, save Herod or perhaps Pontius Pilate, was wealthy during the Roman occupation of Palestine? Don't you understand why Jesus came to be during this time? It was because the people of Judea had become SLAVES to an evil empire. We don't have factual proof, but we do know that this was a dark and dangerous time for the subjects of Judea. I suggest you read up on some history. Oh, and Ronald Reagan's massive debt creation you are still paying off with your taxes today, and we will be paying for his reckless spending for several generations, so don't give me that bullshit about small government. None of you spendthrift Republicans believe in fiscal responsibility. George W. Bush and his cabal have created the largest government that the world has ever seen, both in size and debt creation. Eleven Trillion dollars and counting. Re: Re: Re: The Point IS THIS

Here is a classic example of why wealth is evil, and Paul, Luke, Mark and Matthew preached against it:
From today's Washington Post: The Fast Rise and Steep Fall of [Republican Scumbag] Jack Abramoff "For a time, all things seemed possible. Abramoff's brash style often clashed with culturally conservative Washington, but many people were drawn to his moxie and his money. He collected unprecedented sums -- tens of millions of dollars -- from casino-rich Indian tribes. Lawmakers and their aides packed his restaurants and skyboxes and jetted off with him on golf trips to Scotland and the Pacific island of Saipan. Arrogance, cronyism, greed, avarice, vice, corruption. Paul was right about Republicans. They love money, not God. Read Matthew 25 (the whole chapter) to find out what will happen to you and Jack when your gone. It's a sobering read. Re: The Point IS THIS

Christianity defines itself as the opposite of wealth and corruption.
Most people don't get the main thrust of Jesus' teachings: * Keep all the commandments * Love thy neighbor as thyself * Love one another as I have loved you Re: Good News for a troubled world: Jesus was no neo-con

But, little miss dance,
1. Ronald Reagan was a blatant racist. 2. Reagan and Goldwater are dead. 3. Bush and his the 80% of those claiming to be Republicans who support him in no way resemble traditional conservatives, Republicans, or Christians. Re: Re: Good News for a troubled world: Jesus was no neo-con

again your point is? Just because someone is dead or someone was a racist (in your mind) they still had good ideas. Hey Bill Clinton was and still is a womanizer of the worst sort but you all still worship at his altar, so lighten up.
As too Bush's supporters, the 80% being evangelical Christians is far from accurate. Besides, he is in office and will be there until January 2009 so sit back and enjoy the ride or suffer and be the victim, your choice. Re: Re: Re: Good News for a troubled world: Jesus was no neo-con

Good comeback SongandLies.
Blame Bill Clinton. That'l work. After all, he got us out to the enormous debt that you Republican scumbags left us with in 1991. Yeah, shame on him. We're much happier now with ELEVEN TRILLION DOLLARS WORTH OF DEBT. Thanks so much, and remember, it's all Clinton's fault. |
