Veterans for Peace Bus Tour Promotes Impeachment
The Times-Standard (California) July 24, 2005

Veterans opposed to President Bush and the war in Iraq were set to leave Eureka Saturday on a tour that will take them around the country.

The Veterans for Peace bus owned by Patrick Tate, president of the Mendocino Chapter, was packed to head south to pick up others in Sonoma County, San Francisco, Santa Cruz and Santa Barbara on its way to Santa Monica and the Arlington West Memorial.

Tate said Republicans, Democrats, Independents and Greens will be on the bus.

"And every one of them is calling for impeachment of the Bush administration," he said.

After Santa Monica, the bus will head to Dallas, Texas in August, Washington, D.C., and Fort Benning, Ga. Along the way, the veterans will try to collect 40,000 names on petitions in support of impeachment.

Eureka veteran Gordon Soderberg said impeachment is the only legal, nonviolent remedy to force Bush from office.

"What we fought for -- we have to preserve the right to free speech and dissent," Soderberg said.
