"We must have a foreign policy that is both strong and smart. Yes, the Republicans have been strong, but they haven't been smart. And the policy is one big mess, everyone knows it."

News Hounds

Barney Frank joined Bill O'Reilly tonight to discuss his Sunday interview with Chris Wallace where Frank confronted Wallace about asking unbalanced questons and misrepresenting the purpose of the interview. After Frank explained what motivated him to confront Wallace, O'Reilly was forced to agree that Frank had a point. Then O'Reilly tried for some payback time with Frank and got a rude awakening.

Frank explained that the promos had stated that Frank would be discussing the Democratic Agenda but Wallace steered away from the original plan. Frank said the discussion wasn't unfair because each question Wallace asked was legitimate ...   more »

Jesus' General
If you're looking to find fun, inexpensive gifts for your more God-fearing and patriotic friends and family members, you can't go wrong by checking out the advertisers in my sidebar.

Miss Poppy Dixon's been a Christmas advertiser here for a number years. I love all of her stuff, but you should avoid her anti-masturbatory gum if you're thinking about rescuing spermatazoan-Americans (and of course ladies wouldn't need it anyway since they don't have little soldiers to touch inappropriately). Instead, you might consider a Lock 'n Load Jesus ash tray. Her blog, Adult Christianity, and Cafe ...   more »

Crooks and Liars

thomasfriedman.jpg On The Today Show yesterday, Freidman suggested re-invading Iraq, but I thought he had some time machine handy to help us out. His column spells out the insanity quite nicely. (I think the number 10 has replaced his fetish with the number six.) These are our "big thinkers."

Given this, we need to face our real choices in Iraq, which are: 10 months or 10 years. Either we just get out of Iraq in a phased withdrawal over 10 months, and try to stabilize it some other way, or we accept the fact that ...   more »

One Pissed Off Veteran
According to Don Asmussen, whose comic strip Bad Reporter I read regularly on the SF Gate website, pulling the Bush Twins out of Argentina will make the situation even worse.

James Baker has been called in to help with their checkout time, and the neocons fear that it will be seen as a sign of weakness.

Asmussen is a smart-ass know-it-all whose sense of humor lies somewhere along the lines of dropping firecrackers into Halloween bags and waxing the steps at a nursing home.

In short, someone just like me. No wonder I like his ...   more »

The Blue State

Iraqi President Nouri al-Maliki has snubbed President Bush.  Caving into the demands of Shiite cleric and militia leader Moqtada al-Sadr -- who pledged to topple the Iraqi government if Maliki met with Bush today -- the dinner has been rescheduled to tomorrow.

This comes on the heels of a memo from National Security Stephen Hadley that was leaked to the New York Times and published today.  The memo doubted that Maliki has a very good "interpretation of reality", and even suggested that Maliki might be "ignorant" of what is going on outside his heavily fortified bubble.  Therefore, ...   more »

View Article  Right-Wing Attack On Pelosi Over Union Hypocrisy Systematically Debunked
Think Progress

Right-wing media outlets are engaged in an effort to tar House Speaker-designate Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), who won the Cesar Chavez award from the Cesar E. Chavez Foundation in 2003, as anti-worker.

The conservative claim, initiated by Hoover Institution fellow Peter Schweizer, is that Pelosi and her husband are guilty of hypocrisy over workers’ rights because they own a vineyard in Napa Valley that is non-union. The claim has filtered up through the blogs to Fox News and conservative print outlets like Investor’s Business Daily.

Last night, the ABC News affiliate in San Francisco filed an investigative report ...   more »
