We said it on RadioLeft Sept. 11, 2001. The Washington Post has taken five years to confirm. I'll say it again. The Bush administration was either directly or indirectly responsible for Sept. 11. Had Al Gore been president, it wouldn't have happened. No Sept. 11. No war with Iraq. No hundreds of thousands dead.
The New York Times, reporting on Washington Post editor Bob Woodward's new book "c" about the Bush administration, says "in the weeks before the Sept. 11 attacks, Mr. Tenet believed that Mr. Rumsfeld was impeding the effort to develop a coherent strategy to capture or kill Osama bin Laden. Mr. Rumsfeld questioned the electronic signals from terrorism suspects that the National Security Agency had been intercepting, wondering whether they might be part of an elaborate deception plan by Al Qaeda."
Rumsfeld impeded the effort to capture Osama bin Laden.
Intelligence did have the information.
Rumsfeld questioned information received from intelligence.
"On July 10, 2001, the book says, Mr. Tenet and his counter terrorism chief, J. Cofer Black, met with Ms. Rice at the White House to impress upon her the seriousness of the intelligence the agency was collecting about an impending attack."
At the sham Sept. 11 hearings, Rice dismissed the August report with a title that said an attack on the U.S. by bin Laden was imminent. She said it was just one of many reports that crossed her desk. Now we learn that Tenet met with her in person a month earlier and warned her.
And what was the administration response? A one month vacation.
In the book we also learn that the search for Weapons of Mass Destruction came from Cheney's office. Again, intelligence told the administration, the weapons were gone.
When is Congress going to open a real investigation in Sept. 11 and the criminal activities of the Bush administration which have lead to thousands of deaths?
