The Blue State
As I post each morning, here are some of the political stories that might not be worthy of their own posts, but are nonetheless newsworthy:
- IRAQ The FBI concludes that Blackwater security contractors killed 17 Iraqis this fall without cause.
- IRAQ At the very least, the Iraqi war has cost the American treasury $1.5 trillion.
- PRESIDENCY 55% believe George W. Bush has committed impeachable offenses. However, only 34% believe he should be impeached.
- RIGHT-WING EXTREMISM First it was "the war on Christmas," now it's Thanksgiving. Conservative columnist Michelle Malkin is accusing liberals of a war against Thanksgiving.
- 2008 ELECTION/PRESIDENTIAL When pinned against the wall by a reporter, Edwards said he would support Hillary Clinton if she becomes the Democratic nominee.
- 2008 ELECTION/PRESIDENTIAL Barack Obama slammed both John Edwards and Hillary Clinton on labor issues, accusing them of flip-flopping over the years. “So when a candidate rails against NAFTA today, it’s fair to ask her where she’s been before," Obama roared. "When a candidate says he opposes right-to-work laws or trade rules that hurt workers today, ask him where he’s been before. Because what you need, what America needs, is a president who will fight for you when it’s hard, and not just when it’s politically convenient.”
- 2008 ELECTION/PRESIDENTIAL Richard Land, the president of the Southern Baptist Convention's Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, is encouraging Mitt Romney to address conservatives about his Morman religion, as Jack Kennedy did about the Catholic religion. "If Romney wants to get significant Southern Baptist and evangelical support he's going to have to give a Kennedy-style speech," said Land.
- 2008 ELECTION/PRESIDENTIAL South Carolina Democrats (SurveyUSA): Clinton - 47%, Obama - 33%, Edwards - 10%. It's the Hillary-Obama show in South Carolina. It is becoming clearer that Edwards will need to first win Iowa in order to make up ground before the contest in South Carolina.
If we left something out, it's because we either wrote about it yesterday or are scheduled to do so in an individual post later today. Otherwise, feel free to add any stories to the comment box.
