The Blue State

As I post each morning, here are some of the political stories that might not be worthy of their own posts, but are nonetheless newsworthy:

  • (BUSH) AP: Bush's approval rating is at 33%.  64% disapprove.
  • (IRAQ) Poll: 72% of Iraqis in Al Anbar have no confidence in the United States, up from the 49% that felt that way in March and far above the national average.
  • (JUSTICE DEPARTMENT) President Bush will nominate Michael Mukasey as the new Attorney General.  It is unlikely that Democrats will oppose this pick.
  • (ACTIVISM) Michael Bloomberg will soon disclose that he gave $165 million of his personal wealth to more than one thousand charities in 2006.
  • (REPUBLICAN PARTY) Former Senator Lincoln Chafee is quitting the Republican Party.  "Chafee said he disaffiliated with the party he had helped lead, and his father had led before him, because the national Republican Party has gone too far away from his stance on too many critical issues, from war to economics to the environment," reported the Providence Journal.
  • (2008 ELECTION/PRESIDENTIAL) Angelique Pirozzi, Hillary Clinton's Iowa field organizer, is no longer with the campaign.  It is unclear whether she resigned or was fired.
  • (2008 ELECTION/PRESIDENTIAL) At Senator Tom Harkin's (D-IA) annual steak fry, Joe Biden said the             "election is as serious as a heart attack, folks."  Democrats spent the day courting voters at the event.
  • (2008 ELECTION/PRESIDENTIAL) Also at Tom Harkin's annual steak fry, Barack Obama addressed the crowd for about ten minutes.  "Everybody is sick and tired of being sick and tired of George Bush," said Barack Obama. "All you have to do is take a look at the president pretending that going around in circles was making progress. If that doesn't get you ready to get rid of George Bush I don't know what will."
  • (20008 ELECTION/PRESIDENTIAL) Retired Army Captain Mike Klein has been hired as Dennis Kucinich's new Campaign Manager.

If we left something out, it's because we either wrote about it yesterday or are scheduled to do so in an individual post later today. Otherwise, feel free to add any stories in the comment box.
