We have an epidemic of suicides among veterans returning from Iraq. The Joshua Omvig Veterans Suicide Prevention Act passed the U. S. House of Reprentives 423 to 0 before the August break. In the Senate, the bill has 31 co-sponsors. Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) put a hold on the bill – which prevents it from coming to the Senate floor for a vote. Coburn stands alone in opposing this bill.
Senator Coburn objects to the bill because it might interfere with the rights of a veteran to buy a gun.
