"We must have a foreign policy that is both strong and smart. Yes, the Republicans have been strong, but they haven't been smart. And the policy is one big mess, everyone knows it."
- Senator Chuck Schumer

Keith:

I must tell you that I have been a devoted viewer for several years - watching Countdown live at 7 CST, at 11 if I miss that, and from the MSNBC website if I missed the re-run.

I can no longer stand to watch you. You are so gleeful about Hillary Clinton's problems and relish every nasty spin you can put on every story. I see the fire in your eyes as you stick the knife in Hillary Clinton and twist it.

You should be ashamed.

You are attacking a person who has spent her life working to help ordinary Americans -- while you have spent your life collecting big salaries for doing what? Attacking good people just to line your pocket.

Actually, I now understand you. You are a chamelion who uses outrage and attacks – on the weakest target of the moment – to create controversy and ratings.

You are not the guardian of American values you fancy yourself to be. You are just like George W. Bush: You, too, are an egotistical and mean-spirited bully.

I can no longer watch your show because you put my blood pressure through the roof.

Now, I watch O'Reilly. I can't stand him, either, but at least he's ...   more »

Obama takes money from big PhRMA lobbyists and pretends he doesn’t. Obama attacks Hillary Clinton with Harry and Louise style ads. Will he wait until after he’s elected to tell us he doesn’t think Medicare should be allowed to negotiate price with his friends at big PhRMA? GS

Partners at the Chicago-based law firm of Kirkland Ellis LLP, which has a lobbying arm in Washington, gave Mr. Obama more than $70,000 in contributions last year. The firm represented a pharmaceuticals company and the Futures Industry Association.

Mr. Obama also has accepted tens of thousands from partners Covington & Burling, which was paid nearly a half-million dollars last year to lobby for the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers Association, or PhRMA.

Sen. Barack Obama, who has refused donations from federal lobbyists and paints his Democratic presidential rival as a Washington insider for accepting their contributions, took hundreds of thousands of dollars from partners at dozens of firms that lobbied Congress in 2007.

The partners — who often share in a law firm's overall profits — gave at least $214,000 to the Obama campaign from October through December, according to a review of Federal Election Commission records and lobbying-disclosure reports with the Senate....   more »

Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primary

Published on Sunday, Feb 24, 2008

Listen to her closing words in the CNN debate on Thursday evening, and Hillary Clinton offered a concise reminder of the virtues of her candidacy, and the difficulty facing her campaign. No matter what happens, she relayed, the country will be best served by the Democratic Party coming together and achieving victory in November.

Hard to imagine now, even with primaries looming in Ohio, Texas and Pennsylvania, that Barack Obama will not be the party's nominee for president. The crowds greeting him have been large and enthusiastic. He has captured 10 consecutive states, in primaries and caucuses, in the north, south, east and west, and by wide margins, eroding the base of much Clinton support.

Many Ohioans surely will join the chant ''Yes, we can!'' in the coming days. They may do so thinking about ''electability.'' This editorial page has in mind the question of which candidate would make the stronger president, which candidate is more prepared for all the Oval Office presents its occupant, and the many challenges before the country at home and abroad.

We recommend a vote for Hillary Clinton in the March ...   more »
